Law Day, Oct. 4

Interested in Law? Don’t Miss Law Day, Oct. 4, in the IMU!

Law Day is coming Friday, October 4, featuring students and representatives from 95 law schools and a panel discussion of law school deans! Law Day is the most important event of the year for prelaw students, especially those participating in the upcoming applications cycle.

What is Law Day?

If you are seriously considering law school, you won’t find a better opportunity to speak with representatives and learn about the admissions process from those who know it best: students and admissions representatives from law schools across the land. Law Day features one of the largest law fairs in the country, with an incredible 110+ schools attending! Don’t just wait and hope for law school admission and scholarship offers; get the information you need to know before you apply!

Law Day is free and open to the public. Freshmen through alumni interested in law school are urged to attend.

Law Day Events:

Panel Discussion/Q&A With Law School Deans of Admission

·         When: 9:00 AM–10:45 AM, Friday, Oct. 4

·         Where: IMU, Whittenberger Auditorium

·         What is it? A panel of law school admissions deans from several leading law schools, including IU-Maurer, will take questions on how to distinguish yourself from other law school applicants. Attendees will learn what really matters and, just as important, what doesn’t work. This may be the most valuable admissions presentation you will have the chance to see. Come with questions; leave with a huge edge!

 Law Fair

·         When: 11:00 AM–3:00 PM, Friday, Oct. 4

·         Where: IMU, Alumni Hall and Solarium

·         What is it? Admissions representatives and students from over 110+ law schools providing materials, information, souvenirs – even fee waivers. Come with a list of schools to visit and questions to ask – or use the provided materials to help you navigate the venue and ask questions about popular programs, admissions requirements, financial aid and more. Participation saves lots of time otherwise spent contacting law schools, scheduling appointments and researching admissions criteria.

NEW COURSE, SPRING 2020: Animal Cognition,

NEW COURSE, SPRING 2020: Animal Cognition, COGS-Q345 (3 credits)

Professor Tom Schoenemann, Cognitive Science Program
Time/location: TuTh 11:30-12:45pm, Psychology room P226

Course Description:
Do animals think the same way humans do? Do they have consciousness? Memory? Are they moral? Do they have language?  This course is an introduction to the study of animal cognition.  The first part of the course will review historical, theoretical, and philosophical perspectives on these questions. With this background on the issues, we will explore debates about specific aspects of cognition that have been studied scientifically, including whether--and if so, how--animals reason about problems they are faced with, whether they can be said to have memory and concepts, whether they use can use tools, whether they communicate and if so, can it be called a "language", whether they have consciousness, behave altruistically, and have morals.

Rap Guide to Consciousness at Bloomington Playwrights Project

Free Tickets Available for Bloomington Playwrights Project (BPP)'s science and psychology-themed show, The Rap Guide to Consciousness!

“Peer reviewed rapper” Baba Brinkman takes a deep dive into the neuroscience of human experience, from sensations to hallucinations. “Mind-blowingly, awe-inspiringly good” (Broadway Baby). Baba’s brain consists of tens of billions of neurons, none of which has any idea that he exists. And yet, somehow, those cells come together to produce a steady stream of ill rhymes, laughs, and revelations about the mind we live in.

BPP would like to offer a limited amount of complimentary tickets (available on a first-come, first-served basis) to PBS students who would like to attend any of the following performances:

-September 12th @ 7:30PM
-September 13th @ 9PM
-September 14th @ 7PM

To reserve a complimentary seat at the show, students should email BPP Managing Director Brad Schiesser at brad@newplays.org.

P.S. There is also another show, Rap Guide to Culture, at the BPP.  Email Brad Schiesser if interested in learning about the science behind culture!
