Study Coordinator Position at Washington University in St. Louis

We are seeking a study coordinator who will lead day-to-day operations for the St. Louis Personality and Intergenerational Network (SPIN Study; PIs: Thomas Oltmanns & Ryan Bogdan). The SPIN Study is focused on a study regarding psychosocial and biological mechanisms that account for the intergenerational transmission of adversity and health in the children and grandchildren of a representative sample of 1,500 community residents who have already been studied for 12 years. Stability of relationships with study participants and their families is a high priority, so the project coordinator must be someone who expects to make a long-term commitment to the project.

 Primary Duties and Responsibilities

1. Plan, coordinate, and supervise recruitment and repeated assessments of children and grandchildren from a representative sample of 1,500 older adult research participants from the community. This includes training and supervising a team of student assistants who mail letters about appointments, call participants on the phone, and schedule appointments with participants and their informants.  Monitor progress toward established milestones and send regular communications to study participants in an effort to maintain their loyalty to the study.

2. Maintain databases; coordinate data entry and verification; assure quality of data collection (which includes gathering, organizing and verifying completeness of data) and storage.  These activities involve supervision of another team composed of staff and student assistants.

3. Manage cooperative projects and meetings with other related labs at Washington University (e.g. in the Departments of Psychology and Psychiatry) and at other universities.  Schedule on-going meetings involving members of these groups.

4. Monitor attrition from the sample, including identification of participants who are deceased using public records and track those who have dropped out for health reasons.

5. Conduct assessments of participants regarding personality, health, and psychopathology. Assist in blood draw scheduling.

6. Assist Dr. Oltmanns and Dr. Bogdan with various administrative tasks associated with the day-to-day operations of the lab and related research projects.

7. Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
1. Bachelor’s degree in a related field and prior research experience.

2. Demonstrated ability to get along well with others in a challenging environment.

3. Exceptional organizational and interpersonal skills.

4. Ambitious, energetic, adaptive, and resilient personality.

5. Able to work with people from many different backgrounds.

6. Sensitivity to mental health issues, while also able to manage the collection of data on these topics.

7. Many of the questions in our assessment battery are concerned with mental health issues (e.g., the diagnosis of depression, anxiety, substance use disorders, and personality disorders).

8. The project coordinator will have to be sensitive to these issues and must be prepared to carefully handle difficult questions about personal adjustment (e.g., suicidal thinking, psychosis) that may be raised by the participants or by their informants (often spouses, family members, or close friends).

9. Basic computer skills (word processing, electronic communication, experience with Microsoft products).

Preferred Qualifications
1. Master's degree in psychology or related field and at least three years of managerial experience in a comparable research program in clinical psychology, psychiatry, or epidemiology.

2. Additional training or experience in the assessment of psychopathology; epidemiological methods; data management and analyses.

Washington University is an Affirmative Action Equal Opportunity Employer and encourages women, minorities, economically disadvantaged and persons with disabilities to apply.
