Undergraduate Research Experiences (REU): 2014

The Conte Center for Computational Neuropsychiatric Genomics is offering an REU (Research Experiences for Undergraduates) program this summer.  The Center seeks qualified undergraduates for 2014 REU fellowships.  Stipends are $4,000 for ten-week projects.  They will be awarded on a competitive basis based on academic excellence, motivation, scientific potential, compatibility of personal interests, and long-term career goals aligned with research programs of the Conte Center.  Applicants with computational science backgrounds are especially encouraged to apply.  All participants must be U.S. citizens (or permanent residents) and be enrolled in (but not yet graduated from) an accredited undergraduate college degree program with a concentration in a biological sciences field.  Please post and/or share the attached announcement and application.

For Conte Center news go to the project website (http://www.contechicago.org). For the Conte website education page, please click here.

If selected for the REU program, students will be matched with a research mentor. During the program participants will be invited to lab meetings and seminars.  In addition, they will have access to libraries, athletic facilities, and University-sponsored events.  At the conclusion of the summer projects, students will produce a summary report and present their findings at an REU Symposium in the Gordon Center for Integrative Science at the University of Chicago.

The deadline for receipt of REU application materials (see attached pdf file) is February 10, 2014.

Thank you, Laura O'Dell

Undergraduate Summer Training Opportunity in Neuroscience of Drug Addiction.  The University of Texas El Paso has an exciting opportunity for undergraduate students to participate in an 11-week summer research program (May 19-August 2) in the Neuroscience of Drug Abuse.  The students are paid a stipend, housing, and travel to and from El Paso.  Our program, entitled SMART MIND involves a training experience the research laboratory of one of our Neuroscience Faculty members. Students will also have the opportunity to interact with other faculty in our multidisciplinary Neuroscience research group through weekly seminars and social activities. They will also participate in a series of professional development workshops as part of a larger community of several summer research programs. Details about the program can be found at http://science.utep.edu/smartmind/  Please forward this email to undergraduate students who may be interested in this summer experience.  We are now taking applications via the website listed above.   Students majoring in biosciences, chemistry, psychology and related fields are welcome to apply.
