About The Kinsey Institute: The mission of The Kinsey Institute is to promote interdisciplinary research and scholarship in the fields of human sexuality, gender, and reproduction. The Institute carries out this mission through:
• programs of research and publication;
• development of specialized collections of resources for scholars;
• interdisciplinary conferences and seminars;
• provision of information services to researchers; and
• graduate training.

The Institute's broader mission includes service to the University and professional communities through teaching, clinical and research training, tours and presentations, and to the public through provision of clinical services for problems related to sexual and reproductive health and referral to appropriate organizations and groups.

Research Practicum Duties/Responsibilities:
• Travel to local health clinics and other venues to recruit male research participants.
• Describe a study (including risks and benefits) to potential participants.
• Administer questionnaires to male research participants.
• Perform and monitor subject payments.
• Conduct psychophysiological assessments of men in the Kinsey Institute Sexual Health Laboratory in Indianapolis (IU School of Medicine)
• Enter qualitative and quantitative data into Excel and Word documents.
• Attend weekly research meetings

Education or training: Some college-level coursework in relevant Social Science (e.g., Psychology, Social Work, Sociology, Criminology), pre-medical, biology, neuroscience, public health or informatics is required.

Required skills and abilities: Experience with and coursework relevant to social science research methods. Strong organizational skills, conscientiousness, and attention to detail. Excellent interpersonal skills. Good written and verbal communication. Minimum GPA of 3.0 is required. Experience with MediaLab, SPSS, and Microsoft Office products are helpful but not required

Hours: 12 hours per week with a flexible schedule.

An excellent opportunity to gain research-related experience on an NIH-sponsored grant! The multidisciplinary research team at the Center for Health and Behavior at Syracuse University is investigating the efficacy of brief health promotion interventions for patients attending a publicly-funded STD clinic. This project involves a collaboration between the Monroe County Health Department, the University of Rochester, and Syracuse University. This opportunity is best suited to an undergraduate psychology major who graduated in May 2010, and who seeks research experience before applying to graduate school. The position is described below.
* Research Assistant needed for innovative NIH-funded health improvement project. Duties include screening, recruiting, and conducting assessments with STD clinic patients, contacting participants for follow-up surveys, assisting with study-related materials, and other duties as assigned. Qualifications include a B.A. or B.S. in psychology, public health, or related field; good interpersonal skills; ability to work with diverse populations; and strong computer skills.
