Study Coordinator: Post-baccalaureate Position in Affective and Clinical/Translational Neuroscience
Study Coordinator: Post-baccalaureate Position in Affective
and Clinical/Translational Neuroscience
University of Maryland, College Park, MD USA
Candidates are being considered for a NIH-funded
post-baccalaureate (study coordinator) position in the laboratory of Dr. Alex
Shackman in the Department of Psychology at the University of Maryland at
College Park (http://shackmanlab.org/). The overarching mission of the lab is
to have a deep impact on the fields of affective and clinical/translational
neuroscience. To that end, we do our best to perform innovative studies that
can lead to significant discoveries, to disseminate our discoveries as widely
as possible, and to mentor trainees to become top-notch scientists. As part
of several recent NIH awards, the focus of this position will be to
support on-going projects aimed at understanding the neurobiology of fear and
anxiety and its role in the development and maintenance of adult anxiety
disorders, depression, and substance abuse. This position will provide
opportunities to gain experience with neuroimaging (fMRI), ecological momentary
assessment (EMA), and clinical assessment techniques. This is an exciting
opportunity for receiving top-notch mentorship and establishing a competitive
research record (publications, conference presentations) in preparation for
graduate school. This is a 1-year position that is renewable for a total of 2
years, contingent on performance and funding. Duties may include, but are not
limited to, subject recruitment and scheduling; data acquisition, processing,
and archiving; study/database management, and general lab administration.
Applicants should send a cover letter describing relevant experience and
interests, CV/resume, and 2-3 letters of reference to Dr. Shackman (shackman@umd.edu). Applicants will be
considered until the position is filled. The University of Maryland is an Equal
Opportunity/Affirmative-Action Employer. This is a fantastic opportunity to
live in and explore the DC, MD, and N VA area!

Training Opportunity for College of Arts and Sciences Students, Faculty and Staff
The Community Justice and Mediation Center (CJAM) offers a 40-hour
training program for community members and IU students interested in learning

Student Organization for Cognitive Science (SOCS) Callout Meeting
Hello
friends!
We hope you all had a great summer and are settling in on campus! As you’ve probably guessed, this is about the Student Organization for Cognitive Science callout meeting which you should mark on your calendars for Thursday, September 6th at 6:00 PM EST at PY 128. Here’s a handy link that will automatically add it to your Google Calendars.
We’re so excited to get back into the swing of things and have a lot of great things planned for the year, from discussing cutting-edge research in all areas of Cognitive Science (ie, Neuroscience to AI; Linguistics to Philosophy, and everything in between), to watching movies, having a bot write the next Harry Potter novel or Nickelback Song, and eating free pizza*. Most importantly, however, being with a great group of people all interested to some degree in CogSci.
Are your calendars marked and alarms set for Thursday, September 6th at 6:00 PM EST at PY 128? Great! If you are unfamiliar with the location, PY128 is right by the Psychology building main office. Also, feel free to subscribe to our listserv, (information on our website), for updates on meetings, related talks, volunteer opportunities and more. We also have a facebook group here if you prefer updates that way.
As always, we look forward to seeing you there, and let us know if you have any questions/comments/ideas/memes/etc.!

*All of humankind's research has come to two startling conclusions: 1. People love free stuff. 2. People love food. At SOCS we combine both of these to offer you the best humanity has to offer.
