Full-Time RA Position at Penn State
The Developmental Personality
Neuroscience (DEPENd) Laboratory at Penn State University seeks a full-time
research assistant to start in May or June of 2019. The position will focus
primarily on implementing a new NIMH-funded R01 study of social decision-making
in young adults with borderline personality symptoms. This project synthesizes
functional neuroimaging, computational modeling, and associative learning
theory to characterize neurobehavioral systems that contribute to
maladaptive interpersonal behaviors. The lab also has ongoing projects
examining dimensional models of personality dysfunction, emotion dysregulation,
and impulsivity in teens and young adults. The successful candidate will
have ample opportunity to contribute to all aspects of research, including
designing/programming experiments, participant recruitment, clinical
interviewing, data management, supervising undergraduate students, and
analysis of behavioral and neuroimaging data. The position is well-suited to
those who intend to pursue graduate training in clinical psychology or
cognitive neuroscience. Typically requires an Associate's degree or higher
plus one year of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education
and experience. A Bachelor’s degree or higher in psychology, cognitive science,
computer science, math, or related field preferred. Prior research or
professional experience with adolescents and/or young adults, especially in
mental health settings, is preferred. Scientific programming (in R, MATLAB, or
Python) will be an important aspect of the position; thus, prior
programming experience is desirable. To apply, please upload a curriculum
vitae, cover letter, and contact information for two or three references. In
the cover letter, please highlight relevant skills and your research and
clinical interests. Review of the applications will begin immediately and will
continue until the job is filled. Salary will be commensurate with experience.
This is a fixed-term appointment funded for one year from date of hire
with an excellent possibility of re-funding.
