The
laboratories of Alex Huk, Ila Fiete, and Nicholas Priebe at The University of
Texas at Austin are seeking applications for two postdoctoral fellowships
funded by an NIH-BRAIN-U01 grant. Our labs are working together to investigate
how neural circuits mediate behavior. We study how primates naturally (without
training) select and track moving objects of interest in the visual world. We
are examining the sensory, decision, and motor circuits involved in such smooth
pursuit by making measurements of neural activity in marmosets at multiple
stages of the pursuit pathway using 2-photon imaging and large scale electrode
arrays and analyzing these datasets with novel computational and theoretical
tools.
Environment:
Neuroscience research at Austin spans the range from molecular to systems to
quantitative psychology and theoretical neuroscience, with a strong vision
group. For more information about the highly collaborative, collegial
neuroscience community at UT Austin, please visit:
Austin is consistently ranked in the best 10 places to live
in the United States (US News & World Report), famous for a vibrant music
scene (home to SXSW and ACL) and year-round outdoor sports and athletics. It is
the 11th-most populous US city, one of the fastest-growing American cities, and
home to the highest density of high-tech companies outside of Silicon valley.
To Apply:
Applicants should have a quantitative background (e.g. Ph.D. in
Physics, Mathematics, Computational Neuroscience, Computer Science, or
Engineering) or high proficiency in electrophysiology techniques. A
demonstrable enthusiasm for Neuroscience and a strong record of research accomplishments
in their current field is a must.
Please send:
1) a CV or resume, and 2) a
statement of research interests to huk@utexas.edu,
nico@austin.utexas.edu and ilafiete@mail.clm.utexas.edu. Please also 3)
arrange for three letters of recommendation to be sent to the same email
address. Applications will be considered on a rolling basis until the positions
are filled, but all completed applications received by February 15 will receive full consideration.
Alex Huk and Ila Fiete will be at Cosyne. If you are planning to apply and also
attending Cosyne, we will be happy to schedule to meet with you there.
