The Causality and Mind Lab at
Brown University (https://www.brown.edu/research/labs/causality-and-mind,
PI: David Sobel) is seeking a lab coordinator for NSF-funded projects on
children's belief revision, social learning, and exploration in both laboratory
and informal learning environments. This is a full-time, paid position in the
Department of Cognitive, Linguistic, and Psychological Sciences at Brown
University.
The lab coordinator will be part
of several projects in the lab, including laboratory-based measures of
children's belief revision, scientific reasoning, and social learning, 3D
motion tracking of children’s responses to examine mechanisms of cognitive
control and social cognitive development, and onsite investigation of
parent-child interaction and exploration at in museum settings. In addition to
lab manager duties, opportunities exist for development of independent research
and publication. The position is for two years, with a third year possible,
contingent on funding.
The lab coordinator will work
with the PI, graduate students, and postdoctoral researchers to engage in data
collection, coding, and data analysis. Other responsibilities will include
supervising and training undergraduate research assistants, coordinating coding
of large-scale data projects, maintaining IRB paperwork for research compliance,
coordinating testing schedules and logistics, and maintaining laboratory
website.
Required qualifications include
-B.A. or B.S. in Psychology,
Cognitive Science or a field related to cognitive development
-Experience working with
preschool- or elementary-school aged children in a laboratory setting
-Proficiency in interacting with
children, families, and the general public
-Ability to manage time and
goals on multiple projects.
-Ability to use or learn
essential software for research, including Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe
Creative Cloud, SPSS, and Qualtrics
-Experience with Matlab and
behavioral video coding is preferred.
