HOPE Mentoring is looking for qualified IU
students who are passionate about making a difference in young peoples’ lives. The
current recidivism rate for youth in Indiana is around 31% in largely because
of an absence of support and services for youth as they return to their
communities after incarceration. Our aim is to lower recidivism rates and
empower juveniles by giving them the skills they need to obtain employment and
stay out of the correctional system.
Mentoring is a proven method to reduce juvenile crime rates and reduce
reoffending. HOPE mentors will work with their mentee on resume building,
interview skills, and any professional or educational goals that their mentee
might have beginning in the correctional facility and following them out into
their communities upon release. Mentors will receive training from qualified
professionals to ensure volunteer readiness during this spring, and serve as
mentors during the 2016-2017 school year. If interested, please contact sdswank@umail.iu.edu, or visit the website hopementoring.com for more information.
