Pending budgetary approval, The Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic (WPIC) at the University of Pittsburgh will be hiring one full-time research assistant to start in the summer of 2009. The successful applicant will assist the Principal Investigators in carrying out several NIMH-funded longitudinal studies: one is a study of the precursors to depression in girls, another is a study examining postpartum adjustment among teenage mothers, and the third is a study of the effects of prenatal nutrition on stress reactivity during pregnancy. The primary responsibilities of the research assistant are to collect data in the form of questionnaires, diagnostic interviews and observational paradigms. The research assistant will also be trained to reliability in conducting semi-structured psychiatric interviews, and phlebotomy. This position is excellent for candidates planning to pursue graduate study in clinical psychology or a related field. The studies are carried out at WPIC/UPMC: a multidisciplinary, academic, clinical research setting. Applicants from ethnic and racial minority groups are especially encouraged to apply.

A Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology or a related discipline is required. Excellent communication skills are required. Research experience is preferred, especially candidates with experience in conducting psychological research. A non-binding two-year commitment is requested.
